RSM Classic: Ludvig Aberg takes the lead after second-round 64
Ludvig Aberg claimed a one-stroke lead at the RSM Classic at Sea Island, after the rookie Ryder Cup winner shot a second-round 64.
The 24-year-old Swede, a member of Europe's victorious team in Rome, extended his bogey-free run through 36 holes with a six-under-par score on the venue's Seaside course.
Aberg only turned professional in June but has already won on the DP World Tour at the European Masters in Switzerland - a victory which earned him a Ryder Cup spot - and is now in contention to win in the United States where he went to college.
"I know my capabilities and I know my strengths but to be able to do it this quickly, it's been so much fun," he said after moving clear at 11 under for the tournament, the last of the PGA Tour season.
"I still pinch myself in the morning whenever I wake up that I actually get to do this for a living, but it's really cool and I'm looking forward to a bunch of years ahead of me."
Victory on Sunday would propel Aberg into the top 60 of the FedEx Cup standings and with it a spot in next year's Masters, as well as the enhanced money-spinning events at Pebble Beach and the Genesis Invitational.
Currently his main rivals are American trio Eric Cole, Denny McCarthy and Sam Ryder, although there are a total of 21 players within three shots of the lead.
