Resurgent Rickie Fowler on the cusp at Rocket Mortgage Classic
Rickie Fowler enjoyed a superlative last nine holes on Saturday at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, surging to the top of the leaderboard.
Rickie Fowler is on the cusp of breaking a four-year win drought...
The American picked up three shots on the front nine of Detriot Golf Club, but a bogey after the turn threatened to derail his round.
He righted the ship quickly however, his late flurry of six birdies coming home propelling him to 20 under par and a one-stroke lead ahead of Adam Hadwin.
Speaking after his round, Fowler said: "Whether it happens tomorrow or not, it's going to happen here soon.
"Someone's going to have a play a really solid round of golf to win. I know what I need to do. I'm not scared to fail.
"I've dealt with plenty of that and dealt with plenty of bad golf. So just keep trusting swing thoughts and go stick to our game plan and go play some golf."
Fowler's last PGA Tour win came at the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open.
Hadwin carded a stellar third-round 63 to gain seven spots on the leaderboard and keep in close range of Fowler, who has not won an event on the PGA Tour in four years.
Fellow Canadian Taylor Pendrith - who had a share of the second-round lead - is a further shot behind on 18 under.
England's Aaron Rai is tied for fourth on 17 under following a Saturday score of 66.
