PGA Tour: Scottie Scheffler leads while Tiger Woods soldiers on at the Hero World Challenge
Scottie Scheffler is in pole position heading into the final round of the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.
The American leads England's Matt Fitzpatrick by three shots. Justin Thomas is two shots further back, while Australia's Jason Day features among a group of four on ten under.
A bogey on the 18th was the sole blemish on an otherwise flawless Saturday for Scheffler, who picked up two eagles en route to carding a seven-under 65. This week, the adjustments made to his putting are finally starting to pay off.
The former world number one ranked 161st on the PGA Tour for strokes gained: putting this year, but now those putts are finally starting to drop. Aside from a clutch seven-footer for par on the 16th, he rolled in four putts over 14-foot for birdies.
"It's kind of hard to explain," said Scheffler of his putting tweaks.
"I feel like I'm in a place with my putting where I can use my feel, my instincts to kind of turn off and just go there and try and hit putts and be OK with the result whether it goes in or doesn't."
Scheffler sits three shots clear on 16 under, with Fitzpatrick leading the chasing pack after shooting a 65 of his own. Fitzpatrick split eight birdies and an eagle with a bogey and double bogey to keep himself in the hunt.
Meanwhile, Tiger Woods finished his third round tied for 16th after carding an even 71. The 15-time major winner is chuffed with how he's fared on the course this week.
"I still have game," quipped the 47-year-old.
"It's whether or not the body can do it. I'm very pleasantly surprised at how I've recovered every day. My activations in the gym have been good.
"To be able to knock off some of the rust as I have this week and showed myself that I can recover each and every day, that was kind of an unknown. I've walked this far. I've done all my training. But add in playing and concentration and adrenaline and all those other factors that speed up everything, I'm very excited how the week's turned out."
