PGA Tour: Ludvig Aberg holds on to narrow lead at RSM Classic

Ludvig Aberg - Jul 2023

Ryder Cup star Ludvig Aberg continues to take it to the Americans and leads the chasing pack by one stroke going into the final day of the RSM Classic in Georgia.

The Swedish 24-year-old sits at number one after a day of low scoring, picking up four birdies and an eagle on the back nine to cap off his bogey-free round of nine under 61

But Aberg needed every firm stroke with American golfer Eric Cole snapping at his heels and Canadian Mackenzie Hughes trailing just one shot behind Cole.

The trio will head into Sunday's final round in Georgia separated by only three strokes.

Aberg's best run undoubtedly began with an eight-foot birdie tapped in on the 13th hole.

The 24-year-old went on to find the next hole from 75 feet, made a 15-foot eagle putt on the par-5 15th and made it look easy with a second 8-footer on the 16th hole.

He capped off his stellar run with a tee shot which saw the ball land a mere foot from the hole at the par-3 17th.

"I felt like I was striking the ball well," he told pgatour.com.

"I was hitting the fairways, apart from 14, but other than that I felt I was striking the ball well and kind of took advantage of a little bit easier conditions today."

Aberg entered the pro-circle in June and has managed to blitz the competition with a win at the DP World Tour at the European Masters in Switzerland, which won him a spot on the victorious European Ryder Cup team.

If Aberg takes home a win on Sunday, it will place the rookie into the top 60 of the FedEx Cup standings.

A win would come with a place reserved for him in the 2024 Masters tournament and the green light to play higher stakes tournaments at Pebble Beach and the Genesis Invitational.
