PGA Tour loyalist Rory McIlroy grouped with LIV Golf rebel Brooks Koepka at US Open
Will Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka look to put an end to hostilities when they tee off together at the US Open on Thursday?
Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka, two figures very much on opposite sides of golf's long-running civil war, have been grouped together for the opening round of the US Open on Thursday.
While last week's announcement of a shock merger between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LIV Golf is an attempt to bring to an end the hostilities that have dominated the golfing world over the last two years, it remains to be seen whether the players on the opposing sides of this long-running war will be able to move on quite so quickly.
LIV golfer Koepka, whose PGA Championship victory last month likely went some way towards spurring a resolution to golf's longstanding feud, will be joined by McIlroy and former Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama for the first two rounds of the US Open, which this year takes place at the Los Angeles Country Club.
The trio are set to tee off at 1.54pm local time (21.54 BST) on Thursday.
Other notable pairings include defending champion Matt Fitzpatrick being joined by reigning Open champion Cameron Smith, another LIV recruit, and American Sam Bennett.
World number one Scottie Scheffler will tee off alongside two-time major champion Collin Morikawa and hometown favorite Max Homa.
Masters champion Jon Rahm has been grouped with Viktor Hovland and Xander Schauffele, who are ranked fifth and sixth in the world respectively.
Outspoken LIV Golf pioneer Phil Mickelson will be joined by Irishman Padraig Harrington and Keegan Bradley.
