Oliver Wilson confident about his form ahead of Made in HimmerLand title defence
Oliver Wilson arrived in Denmark for the defence of his Made in HimmerLand title believing parts of his game are the best they have been in his career.
Oliver Wilson is in a confident mood ahead of defending his Made in HimmerLand title.
The 42-year-old picked up his fourth win on the DP World Tour/European Tour after an eight-year drought with a single stroke victory in Farso in September.
While he was not able to build on that in terms of results he feels things have improved recently and on Sunday he produced a birdie at the last hole of the British Masters at The Belfry to not only finish joint second - his first top-10 since his HimmerLand victory - but book his place at The Open later this month.
"I haven't played that bad this year. I've just made a few too many errors, mistakes and just not been scoring very well, not been getting much out of my rounds," he said.
"The last few weeks I felt like I was getting better at that and I've stayed on top of all aspects of my game, even though I've not been swinging it very well.
"So what was nice was to suddenly start swinging it well or better, and the rest of the game was there to take advantage of actually swinging it well.
"I managed my game really well at The Belfry but I hit the ball as well as I've hit it, maybe ever in my career."
Wilson said September's victory, albeit welcome after such a long time, was not required as reassurance or validation.
"I know I can win. I don't need to," he added. "I don't feel like I needed to win to know, to prove to myself that I could win.
"I've been close enough plenty of times to just need a little bit of luck and last year, I felt like I got that."
