Jon Rahm pulls out of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's TGL

Jon Rahm at the Open - Jul 2023

Jon Rahm revealed that he will not partake in the first season of the highly-anticipated TGL league due to scheduling.

The TGL, a new sports venture headed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, sees six teams of four golfers playing on a high-tech simulator in a purpose-built arena in Florida in front of a live crowd.

The first event is set to tee off in January 2024 and feature a plethora of golf's superstars, unless you're part of LIV Golf, of course.

However, Rahm won't be one of them...

"I am sad to confirm that I will not be participating in the first TGL season," the Spaniard wrote on X.

"While I still think it's a great opportunity, right now it would require a level of commitment that I can’t offer. Best of luck to everyone involved and may the best team win!"

In retort, the TGL wished Rahm well and confirmed that a replacement will be drafted in the near future.

"Jon is one of the most talented players in the game and we will miss him during the inaugural TGL season," said a TGL statement.

"We understand that players have to balance a lot of different facets of their professional and personal lives and respect Jon's choice and wish him well."

The TGL is an interesting concept, pitting superstars against each other in 18-hole match play on a virtual course with a special short game area. Each match is expected to last two hours and take place during weeknights in conjunction with the demanding PGA Tour schedule.
