Brooks Koepka tells Jake Paul he's not really a golf fan, says golfers aren't athletes

Brooks Koepka wins the PGA Championship - May 2023

In a recent chat with celebrity Jake Paul, Brooks Koepka revealed that he doesn't watch golf and claimed golfers are poor athletes.

The outspoken American has become somewhat of a black sheep in the world of golf after his move to LIV Golf, his indifferent attitude at the Ryder Cup and some controversial statements about the "country club kids" who badmouth him in a new book.

The book - written by Alan Shipnuck about LIV Golf - excerpt reads: "'F*** all of those country club kids who talk s*** about me,' he said, referring to the likes of Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth and others. 'You think I give a f*** what they think? You think I care what people say about me?"

Speaking to the YouTuber-turned-boxer on his BS w/ Jake Paul podcast, Koepka doubled down on the quotes.

"Yep, that's exactly why I said that," said the former world number one, who will likely never regain that mantle due to golf industry politics.

"I just didn't grow up with the buttoned-up [golf lifestyle], didn't have the privileges, we weren't wealthy – golf was just something to do with my brother and my dad.

"If you've got a young kid you've got to spend about 1000 bucs for a set of clubs, that's part of the problem."

Later, Koepka went on to admit that he doesn't pay golf much attention off the course and claimed that golfers are far from athletes.

"I don't watch it in my free time, no," continued the five-time major winner.

"I'm a big sports guy so I'll probably go watch the NFL, MLB, anything. Sometimes I look at [golfers], and I hate dogging them, but I know what real athletes do, I know how guys train, how they do all this stuff.

"Then watching some guys [golfers] who'll go 'I'll go slam seven or eight beers every night and then go play in the morning'. Some people do that.

"There's no way I'd do it. If I'm in the Olympics and I'm running tomorrow, what am I going to do that night to prepare for it? Not that.

“It's probably the easiest sport on your body. You've just got to walk four miles, up a couple of hills. I don’t even have to carry the clubs, I'm not carrying anything."

Koepka may not be winning any friends, but his deal with LIV Golf and his incredible form at the majors - where he has 14 top-five finishes - has him laughing all the way the the bank.
