Alex Noren leads Camilo Villegas heading into the final round of Butterfield Bermuda Championship

Alex Noren 2023

Alex Noren is on the cusp of Sunday silverware as he takes a one-stroke lead into the final round of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.

The Swede signed for a four under 67 around a breezy Port Royal Golf Course, enough to move to 19 under for the tournament, one ahead of the chasing Camilo Villegas.

The breezy Bermuda conditions kept scores in check on Saturday, as Noren found out. The veteran scratched around with a string of pars and finally found his first gain on the par 5 seventh with a birdie.

Noren then showed his scrambling skills as he got up and down on his final two holes, earning a birdie on the penultimate hole, to edge ahead of the consistent Villegas.

"This is what you dream of, having a chance to win and being up in the final group on a Saturday, Sunday," Noren - who is chasing his 12th professional win - told pgatour.com.

"I really enjoyed it today... I came off maybe a little colder start, but I played good enough to kind of get that four under in the end. I'm very happy, happy with that and happy to be in the lead still.

"[Sunday] is going to be a lot of guys chasing, so there's going to be some low scores."

As for the soft-spoked Villegas, he just wants more of the same...

"Three days, one more, got to keep doing the same thing and we'll see what happens," said the Colombian.

Also in the hunt are Ryan Moore and Germany's Matti Schmid, who are two shots back on 17 under, while PGA Tour veteran Stewart Cink is in solo fifth on 16 under. The 50-year-old is enjoying somewhat of a late resurgence with two titles in the last three seasons.
