West Indies vs England: Second ODI tips and suggested bets
Planet Sport offers a few tips and suggested bets for the second ODI between the West Indies and England on Wednesday 6 December 2023.
England find themselves backed into a corner with the direction of the white-ball side in serious question after a lame defence of their Cricket World Cup crown.
The West Indies will be the side that will feel a big difference coming into the second match of the series, having shown they are still a quality team after pulling off a big chase in the opener.
Wednesday's second ODI will play out at the same Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on North Sound, Antigua, where the West Indies have won their last five matches in the format.
West Indies vs England: Second ODI suggested bets
After England's terrible World Cup and opening match loss, they will be desperate to stop the rot, and the first thing they need to address is throwing wickets away when they are on top. With Harry Brook clearly the man in form, there is a big push to get him into the fray a little bit earlier, if not upfront. Brook top-scored for England last time out and looks very likely to do it again.
When it comes to the West Indies batters, there is much to be taken from a look at the scorecard in the opening ODI, with Shai Hope the standout. Hope will be further bolstered by the feeling that his captaincy isn't under question at this very moment in time.
The same cannot be said of Jos Buttler, whose leadership and form are in question as much as his position in the batting order is unclear. England didn't get the pacing of their innings correct, and there are plenty who feel that the skipper should be bumping himself up to No 3 or higher in the order to make his presence felt.
Sam Curran has usually come through in pressure moments, but was utterly unable to influence the match with the ball in the first ODI, and his place in the attack is under question. Brydon Carse looks like the bowler who will most likely end up at the top of the wickets-taken column.
Gudakesh Motie troubled England enough to suggest he could give them a few sleepless nights ahead of their next meeting with the tricky wrist-spinner. The experience and pace of Alzarri Joseph could also be key in getting early wickets for the West Indies.
