West Indies confirm squad for England ODI series with Shane Dowrich back in the fold

West Indies' Shane Dowrich

West Indies have named a 15-man squad for next month’s ODI series with England, with Shane Dowrich back in the fold.

Wicketkeeper-batter Dowrich made the last of his 35 Test appearances at the end of 2020, but is now in line to return to the international stage.

Dowrich has only played once for the West Indies in white-ball cricket, but has impressed for Comb C&C in the recent domestic Super50 Cup competition.

Shai Hope will again captain the team, with Alzarri Joseph named as the new vice-captain, while Nicholas Pooran and Jason Holder were unavailable for selection as they prioritise the upcoming five-match IT20 series with England, which begins on December 12.

West Indies missed out on qualification for the Cricket World Cup and have named two uncapped players in their squad, with batting all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford and seam bowler Matthew Forde called into the group.

Lead selector Desmond Haynes said: “England on tour of the West Indies is always filled with excitement and expectation.

“We expect this to be a hard-fought series, but we also believe this squad will do well in our home conditions. We have a clear vision.

“We are focused on building a solid team. Our main focus is to re-build for success at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027.”

The three-match ODI series with England starts on December 3 in Antigua.
