Reeza Hendricks on form to help South Africa take T20 series lead against India

South Africa's Reeza Hendricks

Reeza Hendricks continued his good form in a South Africa shirt as he helped the hosts to a five-wicket victory over India in the second T20I played in Gqeberha on Tuesday.

Hendricks peppered the boundary with some sumptuous strokes as he breezed to 49 off 27 balls as the Proteas reached their revised target of 152 with seven balls to spare after the innings was reduced to 15 overs because of rain.

The 34-year-old added 42 off just 17 deliveries in an opening stand with Matthew Breetzke (16 from 7 balls) before a needless run-out ended the quick-fire start.

Home captain Aiden Markram then joined Hendricks in the middle and quickly found his groove on his way to 30 off 17 balls before holing out in the deep.

A few late cameos from David Miller (17), Tristan Stubbs (14 not out) and Andile Phehlukwayo (10 not out) made sure the Proteas took the lead in the three-match series with one match left to play after the series opener was washed out in Durban.

Earlier, India posted a total of 180-7 in 19.3 overs after being sent in to bat at the toss by Markram with Rinku Singh top-scoring with an unbeaten 68 off 39 balls.

Singh was well-supported by his skipper Suryakumar Yadav (56 from 36) as the duo added 70 in the middle-order after the tourists had slipped to 55-3.

Proteas spinner Tabraiz Shamsi was the pick of the bowlers on show and received the man-of-the-match award for his economical figures of 1-18 in his four overs.

The third and final T20I will take place at the Wanderers on Thursday before the teams lock horns in a three-match ODI series starting on Sunday.
