Jonny Bairstow set to make County Championship return with Yorkshire

Bairstow has been axed by the Test team after winning his 100th cap in India over the winter, with Jamie Smith, Dan Lawrence and new call-up Jordan Cox all preferred so far this summer.

His last first-class game for his hometown side came last May but, after featuring for Welsh Fire in The Hundred over the past month, the 34-year-old is ready to wear the White Rose again.

He will line up at Scarborough's North Marine Road, where Yorkshire host Division Two leaders Sussex in a bid to firm up their promotion prospects.

Bairstow will also be hoping to post some runs for his own benefit, having been warned that his Test future hangs in the balance.

Speaking earlier this year after the decision to leave him out of the West Indies series, managing director of men's cricket Rob Key said: "Jonny needs to get back to what he was a couple of years ago.

"Generally, his form in all formats has been going in slightly the wrong direction."
