Faf du Plessis and David Miller on SA20 benefitting local cricket
Former Proteas captain Faf du Plessis and David Miller lauded how the SA20 is benefitting South African cricket.
The latest T20 slugfest has been met with incredible enthusiasm by the South African public, who have made sure venues continue to be sold out well into the second week of the competition.
Du Plessis, who is captaining the Joburg Super Kings, told Betway that the tournament is a fantastic chance for local talent to learn from some of the best cricketers in the world.
"It's awesome that it's finally here, I think we've been waiting for this product for a while," the veteran told the Betway Insider blog.
"Even when we had a T20 tournament in South Africa before, we could see that the standard was good. It's really exciting to take it to a new level now and for the world to see a little bit more of South Africa.
"There is also great talent coming to the tournament from overseas. I think that's the best thing about it all, that international players will be on show.
"It gives younger guys the opportunity to rub shoulders with the best players in the world, it will fast-track their learning and it will make the domestic system stronger."
Meanwhile, Miller leads the Paarl Royals, which have the likes of ODI World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan in their line-up. This provides opportunities for the likes of rising SA stars Mitchell van Buuren and Evan Jones a chance to soak up some lessons from the experienced campaigner.
"You see what the other leagues do, and the way that local players are developing, and this is what we can do here," confirmed Miller.
"Playing with overseas players and all the Proteas' international players can only benefit South Africa cricket. It's going to be a great thing."
