Gervonta Davis beats Frank Martin via KO in eighth round to retain WBA lightweight title

Gervonta Davis

The undefeated American Gervonta Davis stretched his boxing record to 30-0 after a vicious knockout on Frank Martin to once again retain his WBA lightweight title in Las Vegas.

Whilst his fellow American opponent was backed up against the ropes, Davis connected a sweet left uppercut before unleashing a devasting blow with a left hook as he sprinted off to perform a backflip off the ropes in celebration.

Nicknamed the Tank, Davis last victory came against Ryan Garcia, also in Las Vegas, as the 29-year-old now boasts an impressive 28 knockouts out of 30 fights.

Before the fight, Martin also held an impressive unbeaten record of 18-0 with 12 knockouts.

The Ghost made an impressive start to the contest in the opening rounds, landing a few impressive combinations.

However, it was not long before Davis unleashed his fury upon Martin, taking control of the fight and applying the pressure to his opponent.

After a few rounds of total domination from Davis, he secured his knockout victory after backing Martin onto the ropes and landing a powerful left uppercut and hook to send him flat onto the canvas.

At the end of the contest, Davis and Garcia exchanged mostly friendly words as the two fighters could be set to face off once again for a rematch in the near future.
