‘Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard’ – Jimmy Sains talks family sporting exploits ahead of latest bout

Matchroom boxer Jimmy Sains is preparing to make his second professional outing, though he isn’t the only one in the family with an impressive sporting background.

Sains recently signed with Eddie Hearn’s promotional giant Matchroom and is now looking ahead to just his second outing as a professional.

In his debut last September, the 22-year-old picked up a TKO victory against Poland’s Bartlomiej Stryczek at London’s Wembley Arena.

Sains will now head to Newcastle as he takes part in another big Matchroom card over in the North East.

On this occasion, the youngster will square off against Jesus Lobeto who boasts a 1-2-1 record.

West Ham, Ipswich Town and sport in the family

While Sains is forging a path in the boxing world, his father also boasts an impressive sporting background.

Playing alongside Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand in the West Ham academy is one thing, but dad Chris is an accomplished cricketer and remains active member of the Hornchurch Cricket Club.

Sains also has a brother who is currently on the books of the Ipswich Town academy.

When asked about sport running through the household, Sains told Planet Sport: “Since I was young, I’ve boxed and done all sorts of sports. My mom the same, doing all sorts of sports at school.

“My dad, obviously, he played football at a high level and he also played cricket at a high level. He still plays cricket now at a high level as well.

“He plays for Hornchurch Cricket Club. Last year they came second in Europe in the T10. Pretty high level.”

Fans can watch Sains in action against Lobeto on DAZN this Saturday evening.
