Memorial service to be held in honour of Ken Buchanan in Edinburgh

Tributes are left to the Scottish boxer, Ken Buchanan, at a statue erected in his honour

A memorial service will be held in honour of Ken Buchanan at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh at noon on Tuesday, April 25.

The Scottish boxing great, who became the undisputed world lightweight champion in 1971, died at the beginning of the month, aged 77.
The funeral procession will pass the former site of Sparta Boxing Club, McDonald Road, and the Ken Buchanan statue as per his wishes.
Buchanan was made an MBE in 1972 and was inducted into both the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the Scottish Sport Hall of Fame, while a statue of him in his home city of Edinburgh was unveiled last year.
Buchanan's son revealed last year that he was suffering from dementia and living in a care home.
