Jake Paul determined to become ‘world champion’ after first round knockout of Andre August
Jake Paul wants to create one of the ‘greatest sports stories in the history of sports’ as the ex-Disney actor and YouTuber targets becoming a world champion boxer.
Paul picked up an emphatic first round knockout victory over Andre August on Friday night, improving his professional record to 8-1.
A well-timed right uppercut from the 26-year-old saw his opponent fall to the canvas – a shot August never recovered from as the referee waved off the fight.
The bout saw Paul take on a legitimate boxer as the influencer attempts to increase his credibility in the eye of the boxing world.
The American has a number of former mixed martial artists on his record, with Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley all falling to defeats against Paul.
Britain’s Tommy Fury produced the only blemish on Paul’s record, winning a split decision back in February.
"Right now, I'm focused on being the best in the world and creating one of the greatest sports stories in the history of sports,” he told DAZN after the fight.
“Being able to become a world champion from Disney Channel. Now I'm lasered in.
"I'm just really happy, you know, that's that delayed gratification, working hard this whole entire year. And it's just all paying off, you know, just the power of manifestation.
"I think this is the best one just because the first-round (knockout) calling it the whole entire week. Not getting hit one time in the fight and just setting him up for that.
"He kept on ducking low, ducking low and I was like, 'Okay, I'm going to throw the uppercut'. But I got to make sure he keeps on ducking low, assess him, set him up for and finished it, threw it through that thing hard.”
