Frank Mir: I hope that those around Oscar De La Hoya get him the help he needs

Oscar De La Hoya

"I sincerely hope that those around Oscar get him the help he needs. He was a great champion and ambassador for boxing. I'd like to think he can be again,"

Frank Mir hopes boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya can get the help he needs after appearing intoxicated on Triller's pay-per-view event over the weekend.
The boxer-turned-promoter, who won 10 world titles in six divisions, was part of the broadcast team for a card headlined by Jake Paul and Ben Askren.
De La Hoya was heard throughout the broadcast slurring his words and shouting 'let's go baby' throughout his time on commentary.

De La Hoya was calling Steve Cunningham's fight with former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir.
The Golden Boy repeatedly referred to Cunningham - nicknamed USS for his time served in the Navy - USSR - the Soviet Union.
De La Hoya was replaced by Snoop Dogg for the next fight between Regis Prograis and Ivan Redkach.
Mir - who lost a points decision to the American - took to social media after the fight to share his worry about De La Hoya's behaviour at ringside.
"Regarding the commentary during my fight last night. I could be angry and I could laugh too but addiction is no joke, I know.
"I sincerely hope that those around Oscar get him the help he needs. He was a great champion and ambassador for boxing. I'd like to think he can be again," Mir added.
De La Hoya, who has previously battled with drug and alcohol addiction, claimed he will return to the ring on July 3 after 13 years retired and plans to turn Independence Weekend into the new Cinco de Mayo for boxing.
"You can expect a f***ing real fight. A real fight," he said.
"Whoever I pick to be my opponent. You bet your ass that I'm gonna be the best motherf****r out there.
"I always fought the very best, and I'm proud of that. And whoever it is, I've been retired for 14 years.
"But guess what I'm (going to) pick the very best."
He added: "I don't care who it is.
"I will fight until the end, I will bleed until the end. And I will go down to the end."
"Oscar De La Hoya is one of my all-time favorites," said one fan social media.
"He needs to be drug tested immediately by any athletic commission that is about to sanction him so that his comeback fight can be stopped.
"He has a real problem if he can't stay sober for a night of live broadcast.
"Think about how bad Oscar's well-documented addictions must be flaring up right now if he can't stay sober for one night of planned broadcast work, while in training camp for a fight."
