Former British Boxing Board of Control chief John Morris dies at 87

Jane Couch talks to John Morris of the B.B.B.C

John Morris, who was the former general secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control, has passed away at the age of 87.

Morris led the organisation from 1986 to 2000, having started his career as a journalist with the Northampton Chronicle.

Morris was also a lifelong supporter of Northampton Town, contributing a column to their match programme, and was also chairman of their charitable foundation.
During his time at the Boxing Board, Morris memorably described Herbie Hide and Michael Bentt as "two stupid young men" after their brawl at a press conference to promote their WBO heavyweight title fight in 1994.
The British Boxing Board said in a statement: "We are saddened to hear the passing of former general secretary John Morris.
"Our sincerest sympathy and condolences are sent to his family at this time. John, thank you very much for everything."
