Devin Haney dominates Regis Prograis to become two-division champion
New WBC junior welterweight champion Devin Haney thrashed Regis Prograis in a dominant display that proves he is ready for more weight classes.
Haney, now a double title holder, was boxing his first-ever fight at 140 pounds but you would have been forgiven for not assuming such.
The American wowed the capacity crowd at Chase Centre, as well as the judges who handed him a unanimous 120-107 win over Prograis, whom he also dropped to the mat in the third round.
"At 140, we have a new king," Haney said. "This means everything.
"Since I was a young kid, my dream was to come back to the Bay Area and put on a big event. What better time than now with 16,000 people coming out to support me?
Even his opponent had nothing but praise for the new champ.
"That motherf---er is good!" Prograis said. "He is better than I thought, I'm not going to lie. I'm going to give [trainer] Bill [Haney] and his team credit.
"Look, we still keep the same energy but I am going to tell the truth. Devin Haney is better than I thought, I'm not going to lie. He is.
"His feet are faster and he's quicker than I thought he was. I couldn't seem to get to him, he was quick."
