Deontay Wilder's management interested in Oleskandr Usyk fight
Deontay Wilder's camp has confirmed that the knockout artist would be interested in facing unified heavyweight champion Oleskandr Usyk.
As confusion reigns at the top end of heavyweight boxing, Deontay Wilder's management team has thrown their hat into the proverbial ring to further muddy the waters.
The clash would become possible if the current IBF, WBO, IBO, WBA champion Usyk fails to reach an agreement with challenger Daniel Dubois, who holds the WBA's "regular" title and was ordered by the association to face Usyk.
Meanwhile, Tyson Fury is adamant he is fighting Usky before the year is out.
Wilder's manager Shelley Finkel has confirmed that his 37-year-old client is ready to face the Ukrainian unified champion.
"If Deontay was offered the fight against Oleksandr Usyk, of course we would be interested," Finkel told
Sky Sports.
These comments were triggered by the WBA's official statement regarding the Usyk vs Dubios clash which read "The World Boxing Association (WBA) ordered the Purse bid between heavyweight super champion Oleksandr Usyk and his mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois, which will take place on May 25 in Houston, Texas."
There are concerns Dubois will not recover from an ACL injury suffered in his last fight victory against Kevin Lerena in December.
To add further doubts, reports suggest the 37-year-old Brit has parted ways with trainer Shane McGuigan and will join Don Charles ahead of the potential Usyk fight.
Wilder has been out of action since defeating Finnish 39-year-old Robert Helenius in October via knockout, and seems to be raring to have a shot at Usyk, who recently failed to reach an agreement on the financial terms for a rematch with Antony Joshua.
