It comes after McGregor made a passionate plea for the government to act before the damage is done.
In his video to fans, he reminded them the importance of social distancing as confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 1,329 in the Republic of Ireland this week.
It appears that the minister initiated the conversation with McGregor after the fighter's passionate video on Tuesday, and asked him to convey the importance of social distancing to his considerable social media following.
The 31-year-old said: "True lockdown must begin and it must begin now," said the Dubliner. Any time that we spend debating is needless time from the clock.
"I know a good fight when I see one and we have got one on our hands now.
"I want to call upon my people, the great people of Ireland. This needs us all. We are all in the red corner together awaiting the bell so let's gather together and ring the bell ourselves."
"We must close our airports. We must close all non-essential business. We must end all non-essential travel," added McGregor.
"This is my proposal and I pray that we can make this happen."
Pacquiao and Khan lead the way
In the boxing world Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao and former two-time world champion Amir Khan are helping their respective countries.
The former is leading from the front as cases exceeded over 500 in the Philippines. The 41-year-old is providing 600,000 masks and 50,000 testing kits for those at risk.
Meanwhile, Khan has offered his £5m wedding hall as a place for patients to stay in a bid to ease the pressure on the NHS and hospitals in the UK.
In a post on social media, Khan said: “I am aware of how difficult it is for the public to get a hospital bed in this tragic time. I am prepared to give my 60,000 square foot 4 story building which is due to be a wedding hall and retail outlet to the NHS to help people affected by the coronavirus. Please keep safe.”
