Canelo Alvarez vows to retire if he fails to beat John Ryder in Mexico

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez of Mexico and John Ryder

Over 50,000 fans are expected as Canelo Alvarez looks to put on a show in front of his home crowd.

Canelo Alvarez defends his super-middleweight crown against Britain's John Ryder this Saturday night in Guadalajara, Mexico.

This will be Canelo's first fight in his home nation since his 2011 knockout victory over Kermit Cintron in Mexico City.

The fight comes one year on since Canelo's unanimous decision defeat to Dmitry Bivol.

Since then, the Mexican boxer has fought once - defeating Gennady Golovkin on points to retain his super-middleweight titles.
John Ryder will be hoping to inflict Canelo's third career defeat, though the Brit has been seen as somewhat of a soft touch due to his record.
The London-born southpaw has lost five of his 37 fights, with his last defeat coming against Callum Smith in 2019.

"If John Ryder beats me, I'm done," Canelo told DAZN Boxing. "But it's not my last fight. I'm going to continue in boxing for a long time."

When asked what he has left to prove in the sport, Canelo added: "I just want to continue my history, the big fights out there, and right now my short-term goal is the right with Dmitry Bivol, and then we'll see."

Ryder, who won the WBO interim super-middleweight title against Zach Parker in November, has claimed 32 victories in his professional career.

When asked about potentially underestimating his opponent, Canelo said: "I don't want to be too confident because they said the same thing about Dmitry Bivol, and look [what happened].
"So, I train 100% for the good fighter out there Like I said, if I lose to John Ryder, then I'm done."
