NFL top 50 best sellers: Tom Brady still the GOAT of merchandise sales

Tom Brady of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Two things Tom Brady does better than anyone, win Super Bowls and shift merchandise. Planet Sport looks at this year's top 50 sellers chart in the NFL.

Tom Brady remains the biggest star in the NFL after it was revealed that his jersey was again the biggest seller in the league for the second year running.
Seven-time Super Bowl winner Brady has now topped the officials sales chart compiled by the NFL Players' Association (NFLPA), which also takes into account other named merchandise, a record five years since the chart was introduced in 2014.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback retired after last season but went back on that decision after just a few weeks, and he'll return for a 23rd season in the NFL this September.

His No.12 jersey at both the New England Patriots and now with the Bucs is one of the most recognizable on the planet and has been among the most popular among NFL fans for years - it shows he's still the biggest name in the game.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes came in second and for the last 12 rankings, done every quarter and end of the year, it's either been Brady or Mahomes top of the charts.

Quarterbacks still the big names

Only one of the top 10 in the sales chart is not a quarterback, with San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle coming in seventh in the standings as one of the biggest characters in the game.
Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen is in third place, with Cincinnati Bengals triggerman Joe Burrow in fourth place after leading his team to the Super Bowl in just his second year in the league.
Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford, who won that Super Bowl, is only down in 20th spot in the standings, which are done from sales between March 1 2021-February 28 2022.

Mac Jones of the New England Patriots and Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys had the fifth and sixth biggest-selling shirts and merchandise totals, while a slight surprise is that back-to-back MVP Aaron Rodgers is only down in ninth spot.

Ahead of Rodgers is rookie QB Justin Fields of the Packers' big rivals the Chicago Bears, with fans in the Windy City excited about their young prospect. Strong-armed Chargers QB Justin Herbert rounds out the top 10.

Rookies make instant impact

Nine rookies made the top 50 selling list in their first year in the league, that's the most so far and shows the talent that came through the 2021 NFL Draft.

Along with Jones and Fields, fellow QBs Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson and Trey Lance also appeared on the list in their debut NFL campaigns.
Lawrence, the No.1 overall pick of the Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars, came in 32nd while New York Jets rookie Wilson was 50th. Lance came in 44th despite hardly playing for the Niners.

Record-breaking Bengals receiver Ja'Marr Chase sold the 17th most amount of jerseys and merchandise, while Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris (22) and Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons (28) also made the top 50.

Among the biggest movers in the charts, the NFL Defensive Player of the Year T.J Watt of the Steelers jumped up 24 places from last year, going from 36 to 12, while Aaron Donald rose 23 spots from 37 to 14 after helping the Rams win the Super Bowl.

They're all still a long way behind the main man of the NFL though, as Tom Brady remains the GOAT of merchandise sales.
