The weird world of Super Bowl LVIII prop bets: Drake, Taylor Swift, Mahomes and more

The Super Bowl and Las Vegas go hand in hand with sports betting and this year's showpiece event is luring in punters with all sorts of weird and wonderful prop bets.

The most anticipated event in the American sporting calendar, Super Bowl LVIII, takes place in Las Vegas this week.

If there are two things they have in common, it’s that they’re both a weird and whacky way to spend your money - unless you win, of course.

One of the biggest Super Bowl traditions is wagering on prop bets and there are some wonderful markets this year.

A Super Bowl prop bet can be anything from a player scoring a touchdown, to the number of touchdowns thrown or the number of yards a player rushes for.

You can bet on a number of performance-related categories for Patrick Mahomes, Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and others.

However, things get odd when it comes to the Super Bowl. For example, you can bet on Travis Kelce to propose to Taylor Swift on Super Bowl Sunday.

You can bet on a kicker to hit the upright, Drake to wear a Kansas City Chiefs jersey and whether or not the rap superstar will bet on the winning team.

‘The curse of Drake’ has gone viral in recent years with his eye-watering stakes on high-profile events often losing him six to seven figures.

That said, the one area where he has some luck seems to be the Super Bowl, as Drizzy has backed both the Chiefs and the Los Angeles Rams to win in recent years.

Some more traditional props go hand in hand with the showpiece event.

Reba McEntire will perform the national anthem pre-game and while we’ve got better things to do with our lives, you’ll find entire pieces dedicated to that particular bet.

The average Super Bowl anthem lasts around 103 seconds but McEntire tends to sing at a more upbeat tempo, so many are backing her to finish it in under 90 seconds. You go girl.

In terms of the game itself, many punters enjoy betting on the first score of the game to be a safety, which is usually priced around 40/1.

A safety is when the defensive team tackles an offensive player, who has the ball and is in his end zone, or when the offensive team fumbles the ball behind their own goal.

On average it happens once every six Super Bowls

At Super Bowl XlVIII, miscommunication between Manny Ramirez and Peyton Manning allowed the Seahawks to take a 2-0 lead just 12 seconds into the game.

Back to the more unconventional, you can throw some money down on who will join Usher for the half-time show.

Post Malone seems a wise choice considering he will perform pre-game and they have a song together, but he’s just 1/5.

Justin Bieber, Pitbull and Alicia Keys are among the names touted but the funniest of all would be a duet with Taylor Swift - as if the event that has absolutely nothing to do with her isn’t already all about her.

So in true Vegas style, eat, drink, be berry, waste money on stupid crap and have fun doing it.
