NFL Honors: San Francisco 49ers star Nick Bosa wins defensive player of the year award
San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa has taken home the 2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award after leading the lead in sacks with 18.5.
Bosa followed in his brother Joey's footsteps by winning Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2019 but just two years after tearing his ACL has now gone one step further.
The 25-year-old bounced back from his long-term injury brilliantly last year as no player earned more tackles for loss (21) and only three ended the season with more sacks (15.5).
Featuring on a 49ers defense that gave up the least yards in the NFL, Bosa followed up 2021's effort by leading the league in sacks and quarterback hits this year, also forcing two fumbles.
The former Ohio State pass-rusher received 46 out of 50 first-place votes to win the overall vote by 237 points to the 101 picked up by runner-up Micah Parsons. Super Bowl participants Chris Jones and Haason Reddick came third and fourth, respectively.
