Frankel misses Irish Champion Stakes
2012-05-23 07:36:05
Owner Khalid Abdullah decided against sending the horse officially rated as the best in the world over to Ireland, deciding instead to put Twice Over and Cityscape in for the race
Leopardstown chief executive Pat Keogh had hoped Frankel, unbeaten in his 10 races to date, would be among the 50 entries for the Red Mills Irish Champion Stakes.
But, with the likes of Qipco 2000 winner Camelot and 1000 Guineas star Homecoming Queen among the entries, he remains happy it is a stellar field for the race.
“People will ask me why Frankel is not entered and I honestly don’t know, but I really am genuinely thrilled with the entry anyway,” Keogh told the Racing Post.
“It’s hugely exciting to have the prospect of Khalid Abdullah’s other stars running and even more so that the Dubai World Cup winner Monterosso and the Queen’s Carlton House could be in the line-up.”
