England’s Smith signs for Warriors

The 24-year-old Salford City Reds star Matty Smith has completed his move to Wigan and will feature against Wakefield on Sunday

The half-back had initially agreed to make the move to the Warriors at the end of the season when his contract with the Reds ended, but Wigan offered to push the move forward after Thomas Leuluai suffered a broken leg whilst playing for the Super League Exiles.

Widnes Vikings and St Helens reportedly showed interest in the newly-capped England scrum-half, but his heart was set on joining the 19-time Super League champions.

Smith is a former apprentice at Everton Football Club and came through the St Helens academy before joining the Willows in 2010.
