Pontefract best bet: Isle of Wolves looks to turn consistency into wins

Tipstrr's racing pundits have been feasting their eyes upon the final race of Pontefract's Wednesday card, with plenty of contenders in a competitive handicap.

17:35 Pontefract: Trustees Of The National Horseracing College Handicap (1 mile)

With 12 coming to post in this one, there are plenty of contenders that have attracted the attention of the Tipstrr camp.

The early market leader is She's Got Bottle who is coming off the back of two poor performances on the all-weather at Newcastle.

Last time out, the five-year-old mare stepped up to higher company in a Class 5 but struggled to make an impact and two starts ago when at Class 6 she was seventh.

However, a return to turf may do her good, with two frame finishes at Beverley last season demonstrating that.

With her odds currently standing at 11/4 we think that there's better value to be had elsewhere.

For those looking for each-way value, Mr Heinz could be worth a punt.

Simon Whitaker's five-year-old struggled when returning from a winter break last time out, but prior to that break he was in good form, with five top three finishes in eight outings, including an impressive win on the all-weather at Newcastle.

With 12 coming to post and odds of 9/1, he could be in with a shout of making the frame.

Our selection for this one is the ever-consistent Isle Of Wolves, who has plenty of support in the Tipstrr camp.

Trained by Harriet Bethell, who had a winner at this track nine days ago with On The River, the gelding more often than not produces a consistent performance.

The eight-year-old has made the frame in 12 of his last 20 outings, but something hasn't quite clicked when it comes to winning.

His last win came all the way back in 2019 when he won a handicap at Epsom, but the recent form of Bethell's stable could swing this in his favour.

Bethell has a 27% strike rate in 2024 and the booking of Joanna Mason is a solid one, with Mason picking up three winners within the last week and she has been in the saddle for Isle Of Wolves many times before.

We're backing Isle Of Wolves to escape the status of being a pernnial runner-up and grab a much-needed win here.

Suggested bet: Isle Of Wolves in the 19:35 at Pontefract
