Valbuena: Remains faithful
The France international was one of the shining lights in an otherwise disappointing season for Didier Deschamps’ side, who finished 10th in the Ligue 1 standings.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a long-time admirer of Valbuena and is believed to have rekindled his interest in the 27-year-old midfielder.
But the player is determined to remain at the Stade Velodrome, where he still has two years left on his contract, even if there is no European football to look forward to next term.
“I will remain faithful,” Valbuena told L’Equipe. “I did not want to leave the club like that, finishing tenth.
“I am very much attached to the club. It’s hard to leave. There are disadvantages to that but benefits too.
“Even without the Champions League next season can be exciting. At Marseille we cannot talk about transitionary seasons, but there is everything to succeed. I feel good even if that is a bit contradictory with the season we have just had.”
