Swallows apologise for fans

Moroka Swallows have issued an unreserved apology for the behaviour of some of their fans during their Nedbank Cup game against Wits last month

The Clever Boys knocked out Gordon Igesund’s PSL title challengers at the last-32 stage via a solitary goal with some of the home fans taking umbrage at the officiating.

A PSL statement revealed: “Swallows fans verbally abused and insulted the match officials as they were walking into the tunnel as well as their vehicles after the match.”

A statement released by Swallows read:

Moroka Swallows Football Club hereby extends our sincere apology to the South African Football Association (SAFA), The National Professional Soccer League (PSL); The Match officials who handled our Nedbank Cup game against Bidvest Wits FC at Volkswagen Dobsonville Stadium on the 09th of March 2012.

They are: Mr. V. Gomes, Mr. E. Molefe, Mr. T. Ntombela, Mr. P. Tinyane, Mr. P. Masemola.

We would like to apologize for the unfortunate incident which occurred during and after the game mentioned above, in which some of our supporters or fans behaved in an unacceptable and unsporting manner by confronting and following the Referees and uttered swearing words.

We wish to stress that as a club we condemn this type of behavior in the strongest terms and we will do anything humanly possible to correct it going forward.

Thanking all parties concerned and hoping that our profound apology will be accepted.
