McCall seeks end to barren run

Motherwell manager Stuart McCall is desperate for his side to end their extended winless streak at home when they face Dunfermline on Tuesday night

The Steelmen are without a win in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League at Fir Park since September and it is becoming a major talking point.

But with three home games on the trot coming up Motherwell have opportunities to end their barren run, starting with victory over Dunfermline.

He said: “It would be great. This keeps getting thrown up every week that we have a home game - and rightly so.

“The only way we can end talk of that is by winning a game.

“We’ve got Dunfermline and then we’ve got St Johnstone at home on Saturday, who came here and beat us 3-0.

“Then we’ve got the cup game [against Morton] so we’ve got three big home games coming and hopefully we can turn in the performances that I know the boys are capable of.”

McCall is wary of the threat posed by Dunfermline and will not be fooled by their lowly league position. Bottom-of-the-table Pars showed what they are capable of by beating Kilmarnock 3-0 over the weekend.

McCall said: “The management staff and the players deserve huge credit for their result.

“To go down to Kilmarnock a few days after getting beat by Inverness shows a great deal of character and spirit that’s still in the side.

“Everyone there deserves great credit for that result.

“I think they have won four away from home now and we have only won three at home so we know how difficult it will be.

“But I take a lot of positives from our performance at Dundee United. I thought we were excellent and it was really positive.”
