Star duo: Wanted
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp doesn’t think star duo Gareth Bale and Luka Modric will leave the club at the end of the season, even if they don’t finish in the top four
Star duo: Wanted
Spurs were in third place at one stage this term and looking at a Champions League spot, but their poor form in recent weeks has seen them drop to fifth, behind Arsenal and Newcastle.
But Redknapp doesn’t think his top players will want to leave White Hart Lane, as he feels there are ‘not too many’ other clubs they could move to if they want to play top-class football.
When asked if he thought Bale and Modric would be tempted to leave, he said on Sky Sports News: “No, I don’t.
“When they came to the club, Tottenham weren’t in the Champions League, and were nowhere near getting in the Champions League.
“They play for Tottenham. They’re at a great club. There’s no reason they should want to leave.
“If we don’t make it this year we’ll try again next year. There’s not too many clubs they could go to better than Tottenham.
“Gareth Bale and Luka Modric have both signed long-term contracts.
“Gareth has had a fantastic time for young player at Tottenham. He needs to stay at Tottenham a few more years yet and keep developing.
“We’ve progressed so much in the last four years, we’ve got to keep that going and push on even more in the table and look to win a Premier League. It’s not impossible.”
Bale has recently been linked with a move to Barcelona, but the Catalans are not prepared to pay the £40 million the north Londoners are asking for the Wales international, while Modric has been linked with clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United for two seasons.
