Grimsby Town newcomer Joe Colbeck is chuffed with his move to Blundell Park and is eager to contribute once the new season gets underway
The 25-year-old winger signed a two-year contract with the Mariners from the start of the 2012/13 campaign having spent the last two seasons with Hereford United.
He has also played for Oldham Athletic following over 200 appearances for hometown club Bradford City.
“I’m absolutely delighted to have signed for Grimsby Town - it is a tough time for any footballer at the end of the season when you are out of contract, but as soon as Grimsby came along and I heard that they wanted me, I was over the moon,” Colbeck told the Grimsby Telegraph.
“This is a massive club with great support so I’m delighted to be part of that.
“I came back from holiday last Thursday and I came up to the club to have a look round and have a chat to the gaffers straight away.
“After a chat with the family, I came back as soon as I could to sign. I’ve been down at Hereford for a few years now and I wanted to come back nearer to my roots.”
“I came to the end of my contract after a good couple of years there, apart from the relegation last year, but I wanted to come back nearer home and I’m delighted to be at Grimsby.”
He added: “Towards the end of the season, everyone can’t wait to finish and see where you end up, but a few weeks go by and you just can’t wait to get back into it.
“There is nothing better than being back and amongst the lads, training every day so I can’t wait for that.
“From a personal point of view, I want to get into the team and stay in the team and help the team to do well.
“I looked at the table from last season and we only just missed out on the playoffs so hopefully we can kick on, have a successful season, play some entertaining football and be up there again come the end of the season.”
